Confused-mp3 player uses Lithium rechargable battery-how does they work? I bought an InVion Ellipse Multimedia Player and it says it uses a 'rechargeable' lithium battery, but there is no explanation as to how it works or when it should be recharged/replaced. I have never used anything with a lithium battery before so how do they work, is their purpose to last for a long period of time and also how do you recharge one, is there a specific type of battery recharger you have to get??

jo160 replied: "u dont hv 2 m8 jus use wot u want"

niki replied: "when you go to get the batteries ask someone at the store where you can ifnd a chargeer because yes you need a charger and if it takes 1 always have an extra in the charger the battery should last a month or two depending on how much you use the Mp3"

Mock Turtle replied: "Mp3 players are supposed to charge when they r connected to the PC via the USB cable. So, keep it connected to the PC even after you've transferred all the songs. Then I'm sure there is some indicator on the display which will tell you when the battery has been fully charged. DOnt worry about Lithium or whatever, u just need to know that its rechargeable"

I own a Toyota Prius, Is Toyota planning production with Johnson Controls and a lithium-ion battery? Will there be a possible replacement battery using lithium ion? Could we see after market lithium-ion technology?

a.s replied: "Yes they will be putting lithium ion batteries in 2009 and up models."

Can a lithium battery be used in place of an alkaline battery in a universal remote control? I am afraid of battery leakage.

DexterII replied: "Yes, you can use lithium batteries in a remote control. Just do not mix the two different battery types together (lithium & alkaline) if the remote control takes more than one battery."

DEI replied: "yes u can"

can u use a digital camera which uses a lithium-ion battery on an airplane? please help. im flying today night. and also, can u pack a graphing calculator in ur checked luggage? for fhotoace: so u can use a li-ion digital camera on board????????????????????? cuhs then why did the airline company say ur device with an installed li-ion batery has to be switched off??

meandme replied: "yeah"

fhotoace replied: "The restriction of Li-ion batteries applies to checked baggage only or carry-on that has loose batteries in it. All Li-ion batteries must be installed in the device, cameras, notebook computers and other. It has always been a good idea to carry all your camera and computer gear in the cabin with you, especially since you can no longer lock your checked baggage."

stan l replied: "Yes you may. You can also pack your graphing calculator in your checked baggage, as long as you don't mind it being stolen."

How do you use a lithium battery in an rc car? i have an rc18 and i wanted too know how to use a li-po battery before i buy one? am i supposed too use the battery in my car until the car can't move anymore? i have a mamba motor ad esc will that shut of the motor when the lipo is complete? and how do i go about charging the battery?

LowClassCC replied: "lipo batteries should not be discharged below a certain point. a lot of esc's will have a voltage cutoff built in. you will need to see if the one you have has the cutoff. as for charging lipo. you need to have a charger that can properly charge lipo batteries. the duratrax ice is a good charger to use."

Can you charge a lithium ion battery using a USB port? I lost the battery charger for my brand new Olympus FE-280 digicam. I was wondering if it was at all possible to charge the battery using the USB connector and my laptop? If so, are there any special options I need to select on my camera? I know that when I plug it into a USB initially, it asks for PC or MTP. I have no idea what to do here, and I really don`t want to buy another charger unless I absolutely have to. Thanks

gracie replied: "Usually if a separate charger is included with the camera the camera is not set up to charge the battery when in the camera. So connecting with a USB will not do the trick. (MTP is media transfer protocol)"

Elvis replied: "not possible"

how well does 1 x Li-Ion battery (NP-60) lithium battery work? for a Casio Exilim EX-Z80.i dont have it yet but i am soon to get it. also can you change the kind of lithium battery it uses?

iridflare replied: "There are compatible batteries with slightly higher capacities, but they still look very unimpressive on paper. I'd be concerned about the cost of buying a spare and the likelihood of being able to find one if you were in a rush."

why a lithium battery is a dangerous battery than alkaline battery? I hear that lithium battery are not easily as rugged as alkaline or carbon zinc, not becouse of the poisonous nature of these battery but they say its unstable, not easily change and always explode/ is this really true? but how come there are so many lithium battery in the market tody (laptop battery, cellphone, PDa, even my Ipods use lithium)?

rob replied: "a lithium battery is more likely to overheat. and maybe explode. but this happens from extreme over charging, which many devices protect against. if building a device, there are circuits you need to implement for proper charging, and to insure that the battery is not drained too low."

nwsk2001 replied: "They are a more compact form of energy storage - > lithium batteries last longer and provide a higher current than alkaline etc etc. It's not really unstable and none of mine have ever exploded. This is more likely due to hardware faults that cause the battery to overheat, by over charging or poor circuitry that's using the battery."

oeman50 replied: "Just to be clear, there are two types of batteries here, lithium and lithium-ion. Lithium batteries have a lithium electrode and are disposable. Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable and are the ones used in laptops, cell phones, etc. Lithium batteries can discharge quickly and have a high energy storage capacity, so if you have a short circuit, it can generate a lot of heat and vaporize the water in the electrolyte causing an explosion. This is why many of them today have either vent or a current limiting device built in. For the much the same reasons, a lithium-ion battery has the same protection, although the energy storage capacity on a unit volume is not as high as lithium batteries. I would not characterize either battery as "unstable" or "ready to explode". As with any technology, they have limitations that must be realized. I've seen a transformer that plugs into the wall short circuit and cause a fire. If you have energy, this stuff can happen."

Whats the difference between Lithium-ion Battery and a Lithium-ion Polymer Battery? I was reading this atricle about the iPod Classic and it said it used Lithium-ion polymer battery, and lithium-ion battery. Whats the difference between Lithium-ion Battery and a Lithium-ion Polymer Battery? And which performs better? Sorry, if I have this question in the wrong category.

John B replied: "From Wikipedia: "The advantages of Li-poly over the lithium-ion design include lower cost manufacturing and being more robust to physical damage. Lithium-ion polymer batteries started appearing in consumer electronics around 1996.""
